Ink Lifting & Seasonal Colors

These cards were created for the October monthly Stampers Club group gathering.  This technique was featured last Monday in the MMM {Monday Mailbox Makeover} blog article Spookster Treat.   This was shared last week as the Facebook Live Project .  Click the link to check the video out – there is a bit of chitter chatter at the beginning of the video bemoaning technical difficulties (I was lamenting).

This technique is alot of fun.  For more ideas on ink lifting see the “Which Way to the Candy” treat box made the Monday Mailbox Makeover series October 18th.   That post has a full photo tutorial on ink lifting.

Here is a simple approach to adding this technique to your cardmaking using a Blending Brush and a Spritz Bottle.

Apply ink in a circular pattern – always daubing your brush onto your work surface. I recommend a  silicone type craft mat to do inking & wet techniques on.  By daubing the brush, it removes some of the excess ink and will prevent ‘blotches’ of ink on your card base.  My rule of thumb is ” I can always add more ink, I can’t remove it”.

Once you get the ink to the depth of color desired – hold your water bottle or spritzer about 15-18″ above your card and spritz away.  If using a Stampin’Up! Spritzer I found that when I wanted bigger droplets- it worked well to take the lid off and flick the tube against by finger.  Daub excess water off with a Kleenex. Once your spritzed/ink lifted design is to your liking- allow it to dry before adhering to card base.

The design for this card is made easy by adding in a diagonal score line.  It’s called a Twisted Easel Card.  Isn’t this a fun take on card making.  It’s a card concept that has been around for a long time. If you are a newsletter subscriber, the October Monthly Tutorial featured this card design along with full sketches & photos of how to make it!

The very fine twine you see on the above two cards are Papaya & White Woven ribbon shred apart to be individual threads.

Isn’t it a lovely bit of detail!?

This is a fun technique – one you can use on a smaller scale like the cards shown here or to cover an entire card base as shown in last weeks Mailbox Monday Makeover.  It’s an inky fun time!
