Friday Inspiration from A Crafters Collaboration

Today, Friday Inspiration is celebrating birthday fun from A Crafters Collaboration and Slim Line Birthday style!  This card was featured January 27th on Facebook & Instagram as the last Slim Line Card post of January.  What is making for Friday Inspiration for you?

Holy Guacamole- it's another birthday card with a Belly Band:)

This month our collaboration is focusing on Mini Catalog Designer Card Sketches.  The designers at Stampin’Up! do a smashing job of creating artwork that encourages us both creatively and on our pocketbook retail level.  Am I right?

We love what they do so much that we know we have to add this to our collection. ‘This’ whatever that word means in paper crafting world to us in the moment!  I knew I had to have this set as soon as I saw Erica Cerwins design art for the Mini Catalog!  This is a fun stamp set to play with.

This card features watercolor pencils on Shimmery White Cardstock along with ink blending.  It’s a simple design paired with a belly band.  It comes together fairly quick!

Belly Band Holy Guacamole Slim Line Card 3 1/4" x 5 1/2"

I used a Basic Black marker on the photopolymer (clear) stamp to separate the sentiment.  Sometimes it doesn’t give a crisp stamping when using this technique.  I should have used the Stamparatus.

That way I would have been able to repeat the inking for a more crisp, fully black sentiment.  Always a learning lesson to be had when stamping!

To create the belly band after stamping – gently wrap the yellow strip around the card.  You don’t want this tight so that the belly band will easily slide on/off card. Glue or tape the ends together.  Now repeat with the stamped Basic White strip to get the words exactly where you want them.  Again, don’t tighten this down it needs to fit the yellow well but not tighten the band down.

Time to Color!

Completing the image layers is fun! Grab your watercolor pencils, stamp your images onto scrap pc of Shimmery White Cardstock and color away!  Blending the pigments of the watercolor pencils is so easy – with either Water Painters or a Blende Pen.  It’s amazing what a small grouping of pencil colors can achieve.  If swipe back up to one of the supplies photos, I show a slim pencil tote.  I purchased that at Hobby Lobby a number of years ago to hold my pencils for travel.  It has a velcro strip that snugs it into a handled tote.  It holds both assortments of Stampin’Up! Watercolor Pencils along with a handheld sharpener, Blender Pen, Water Painter Brush & blending stump.  Perfect travel companion!

I stamped the chip stamp over and over to create the soft background of the main layer.  Then used an ink blending brush to apply more So Saffron ink around the edges to soften the top layer.
